“The impact of the piece becomes irresistible” The Guardian (on A Linha Curva)

“With its pops at male vanity, its raunchy glorification of muscular women, its fabulous samba music and crazy lighting, it deservedly brings the house down” Jenny Gilbert, The Independent on Sunday

Rambert Dance – A Linha Curva

Rambert Dance – A Linha Curva: The riotous A Linha Curva by Itzik Galili is Rambert’s party piece: a colourful, sexy, percussion-fuelled explosion of samba-flavoured dance that was last seen in 2010, when it helped Rambert win the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for a year of new work.

A Linha Curva is Rambert’s party piece: a riotous explosion of sexy, colourful, samba-fuelled dance. The work features 28 performers, a massed bank of percussion and dramatic lighting – the cumulative effect has audiences on their feet and cheering (once they’ve got their breath back).

A Linha Curva was nominated for the 2010 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production, and helped Rambert win the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance that year for its programme of new works.

The chequer-board stage of Itzik Galili’s A Linha Curva is filled with rhythmic pulses and sexual tension, with irresistible samba-inspired lines and curves, blended with a Brazilian style and contemporary dance technique. This new version for Rambert (2009) by one of Israel’s most talented choreographers was a sensation and a real crowd-pleaser. The original music, composed by Dutch percussion band Percossa, drives the rhythms and electrifies the atmosphere to an incredibly powerful level. Choreography: Itzik Galili; music: Percossa; design: Itzik Galili; lighting design: Itzik Galili. Rambert premiere of A Linha Curva: 12 May 2009, Sadler’s Wells, London.
